I couldn’t leave the page broken, as it is live. I did break it so I could show you what I mean and used screenshots as you suggested.
1) Shows what happens if I do not have both the Show Sorting Buttons and Show Category Buttons check marked in the portfolio settings.

I would like to be able to get rid of the top buttons without the view breaking (as in screenshot 1) I would also like to cut down on the width of the category buttons, and run them on top (which breaks it like screenshot 1 if I do that).

I set the page to full width and I can now see two images in a row.
I still need both sorting groups to be turned on for it to display the thumbnails.
