I suggest creating a webmaster tools account and submitting a sitemap. You can also use “fetch by google bot” in webmaster tools to get your site indexed quickly.
One of the reasons your post is showing up over your home page is because your home page has very little content and google sees your posts as being more relevant.
The only boxes you need to focus on are ‘SEO title” and ‘Meta Description”. Most of the time I would suggest leaving the title as is. For the meta description try and include your target keyword while describing what is on the page. Break your keyword up if you can’t use it naturally. I suggest searching for your target keyword in google and looking at your competitors’ meta descriptions.
Google may choose not to use your custom description however if they feel it is not sufficient.
