Hi Tim,
Yep, everything seems to be working fine now, from the streaming with the 1 pixel player to the download through “save as”.
Thanks so much for your help, I probably would’ve spent a lot of time on various radical solutions before realizing it was as simple as an overlooked option in the settings.
I guess I can put this under “resolved”?
Hi Tim,
I have to admit I wasn’t even aware I had such an option, I customized the player and its integrations into posts, but I just left the statistics options with their default settings. “Full+” was indeed activated and I have now gone to “Full” mode.
This doesn’t really change anything for me as an admin since all I really want to know is how many people have been interested enough to click on the “play” or “download” buttons. But as a user, being able to stream or download the full file determines any potential of returning (which is exactly what I do when I visit websites featuring musical recordings).
Anyway, I’ve changed the setting and hopefully this will fix the bug. If it doesn’t, then I’ll have to try “counts only”, and I’m even willing to disable statistics altogether…
Thanks again for your help!
Jonathan
Hi Tim,
Thanks so much for your feedback! The tests you’ve done, while musically inconclusive (you weren’t able to have a listen), are extremely helpful. I now have a better idea of what could be happening with my hosting provider, my configuration, or the file itself.
I’ve just split the file into two smaller parts (320 bitrate and around 190 mb each) and uploaded them to the server to see if they load properly or not.
I’ve also modified the 370 mb file to a lower bitrate, now it’s 192 and the file size is 220 mb (see the *technical update*).
I hope you can let me know if these two options work for you. I’m pretty sure the split version will be OK, but I’m curious to know about the smaller single file version.
If neither of these options work (which I highly doubt), I’ll contact Godaddy. But from what I’ve read online they probably won’t like the fact that I’m hosting large media files, even though my audience is quite (very?) limited…
Thanks so much for your help!
Jonathan
