In reply to: can't establish an administrative account on installationthe exact error is:
Failed initializing db (Broken pipe)
db init failedi do have access to phpmyadmin. Oddly enough they created me an account after i complained more but the account is full of problems. In my theme everytime i try and save an option im exited from my login and forced to relogin. When re-type my login i get redirected to this address: “http://goldnews.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=%2Fwp-admin%2Fthemes.php%3Fpage%3Dswift-options&reauth=1”
I’m promoted to type in my login info again, and after two attempts im redirected back to “http://goldnews.com/wp-login.php”.
from here i’m able to login again, but once im in im not able to save any changes without being logged out. really weird….
another odd thing i’ve noticed is my theme recognizes that there are comments on the right posts but no comments are displayed and in the admin it shows no comments (besides the 1 default on installation) exist. I thought my comments were stored in my db as well and should have been restored too.

In reply to: can't establish an administrative account on installationwhen i tried to install i get an error the database had broken pipes and the installation would fail. i contacted them but instead of explaining how to fix the error they insisted on installing themselves.
here is what they told me:
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. I have tried to create administrative login using following detail:
user name: ****
pass: *****
admin e-mail: ****I was unable to login your website at :http://goldnews.com/wp-login.php after creating it. I suggest you to contact vendor of the application to further investigate on it. As we are hosting providers we provide support only for installation and upgradation of the application.

In reply to: Improving Site Speed, Will Faster Host Help?with respect to fixing the errors, I dont even know how to find the file the error is in. Im looking at the first error after revalidating and cannot find the code. I’ve look in every filed in the wordpress admin and can’t find it.

In reply to: Improving Site Speed, Will Faster Host Help?didn’t notice the link at first. i’m going to have to work with that a bit, the description of the errors are not totally intuitive.
Anyways, i checked out the gzip and sent a msg to my host to change the server settings (i tried from my IIS admin but couldn’t figure it out)
do you think above and beyond this there is a lot of speed to be gained by upgrading my hosting solution, and if so can you suggest something too?
thanks a lot for the help btw. really appreciate the advice.

In reply to: Improving Site Speed, Will Faster Host Help?what errors are there and how do i clean them up?
it definitely takes like 5 seconds for a full load for me. If i try load a simple html page though like goldnews.com/index2 it goes very quickly for me. i want the whole site to load that quickly.
also can you give a little more info on “enabling compression”?

In reply to: Improving Site Speed, Will Faster Host Help?switching themes took off load time. right now it loads in about 5-6 seconds for me.
my first theme had a marquee and lots of pictures. my new theme gets rid of both and is faster, but only a couple seconds compared to the old theme. I really want to get the site to load in under a second.
Any suggestions?
the domain is goldnews.com btw
Thanks for the response. I contacted the host provider and this is what they told me
Unfortunately, .htaccess file will not work for your website. Since, your account is in Windows platform. You need to use httpd.ini file to enter any code.
so how does this relate to the plugin? If I create the same code but put it in this file should it work then?
i have access i believe. I’m using ipower as a host and there is section called “IIS Administration Console”.
the first subsection is what i think you’re talking about it and its called “default docs”. i can’t find a filename .iisaccess though.
what is there includes the following examples:
default.html
default.asp
index.html
index.asp

In reply to: Site Not Working. Can't update WordPresswhen you say wordpress folder, do you mean wp-content?
if so, is this the main folder, or is the wp-content inside wp-content the main folder?
i made the ftp client force hidden files but still cant see the maintenance or htaccess file. ill try create the htaccess but not sure exactly where to upload it. once i do do this, what is my next step also?
