I’m not completely sure what the problem is, but just clarifying that my top image – whether set as the feature image or not – does appear in the olg:image tag, so if that’s what Google uses for its thumbnail then it isn’t registering for some reason.

And I have confirmed the images are correctly placed. Been in Google News for almost 10 years and, as far as I can tell, doing everything exactly the same now as has worked properly in the past.

I’ll have to do some more testing as both indexing and featuring a thumbnail image are spotty for me right now and I haven’t found a pattern yet. I’ll leave this open for a bit in case I figure out the answer.

Thank you for the quick reply, Raven.

That all checks out. I do have to make an articles image also ‘featured’ when it’s already in the WordPress media library in another post, and kept up that practice recently too.

Thumbnail haven’t been showing up in the GN index whether it’s a newly uploaded picture or one ‘recycled’ from an earlier post – just the one that featured two images.

If it grabs the thumbnail from the post itself, and not this plugin (I do see the top photo indicated in the page’s ‘og:image’ tag too) then there must be something else going on.

Thanks. This helps rule out one possibility as I try to troubleshoot this problem!
