Correction — My apologies — I did find instruction to fix my issue.
Under Settings
To reduce database load you can choose to have SEO SMART links work only on single posts and pages (for example not on main page or archives).
I leave this UNCHECKED
That took care of my issue for linking to archives 🙂
It’s an awesome plugin – I’ve been a big evangelist for it for a long time. Now it’s broken 🙁 It must be something recent – it worked just a few days ago.
