In the future, don’t try the DIY approach. If you need something changed around about your account, ask first.

    Sure.

And problem solved, Thank you very much! 🙂

I can fix your problem easily. I just want to know what the actual problem is, not what you think the problem is.

Info from gist copied and deleted. Next time, use email. 🙂

    I have a legacy wordpress.org account with username @oldusername and E-mail main@example.com.

Couple years later, I decided to use @gaomd as my username across the Internet, and I actually did (GitHub, Twitter, etc).

Now I’m ready to release a WordPress plugin, I wish I could publish it under username @gaomd, too.

The plan is to stop using @oldusername account, and update it’s E-mail to main+a@example.com (DONE), then register a new account @gaomd with E-mail main@example.com. (But wordpress.org won’t allow me to register with main@example.com again, said “Email already exists”, turns out I registered with main+b@example.com).

TL;DR: Since main@example.com is my main E-mail, I wish I could change the E-mail of my newly created account @gaomd to main@example.com, so I could login with main@example.com, then automagically wordpress.org would pull my correct Gravatar.

Please review the provided reason to see if it’s acceptable and help update my E-mail.

    Thank you!

It’s hard to believe this behavior is eligible as a feature in year 2015. If E-mail is important to prevent spam, instead of tied to an account forever even if one has changed it, I suggest send an E-mail verification when one changes it’s E-mail at wordpress.org/support, like Codex Wiki did.

If there is no man power to working on these hotfixes, I suggest make a clearer statements (e.g.: Once registered, the E-mail is tied to the account forever (and update it wont change the fact)) on Sign Up & Sign In & Password Reset & E-mail Update forms to prevent confusions, especially their error messages.

Theres is another issue, after I’ve changed the E-mail at wordpress.org/support, the E-mail of associated account at codex.wordpress.org won’t get updated, I have to change it again. I understand it’s hard to couple some very different systems to work together, thanks for you clarifications. Still happy to see some real improvements anyway.

Exactly the same bug as in this topic.

I’m releasing a plugin, a commonly known username is important to me.

It’s a bug, because I have changed the {email-A} of my legacy account to {email-B}, after that, {email-A} should not bound to any of you system, and I should be able to register a new account with {email-A}, but I’m facing the Email already exists bug.

Plus, If I do a password reset with {email-A}, you system prompts me The specified user does not exist error, obviously it’s the system WordPress.org messed up.
