I checked the categories issue again, and except of the heavy load there was another reason it’s implemented this way.The WooCommerce allows you to assign only the subcategory and not the parent category if you want, in a product, even though the subcategory belongs to the category. This way, the product appears only in the subcategory archives and not in the parent’s.
So the restriction should follow this pattern as well.
If you want, inside the edit product screen, you can check the parent category as well and the restriction it’s going to take effect.I think the functionality should remain as it is right now.
