In reply to: 2.8 upgrade – lost access to dashboard@ambr607: Who is your host? If you have a linux hosting account with Cpanel (or a nice control panel), I’ll help you recover. Email me at educhalk [at] gmail [dot] com
Backing up your db does protect your content…with the exception of any uploaded files…which are probably still there unless you deleted them yourself.

In reply to: 2.8 upgrade – lost access to dashboardMy back-up is one big sql.GZ file – doesn’t match up to files and folders! Doh!!!
As long as you have your database backup, you can recover. Since you have a sql.gz file, it sounds like you do have that. However, I’ll bet you don’t even need to use that…from your description of what you did, I would bet you just installed a new set of tables in your database….your data is probably still there and all you need to do is set your wp-config.php file to the proper table prefix.

In reply to: 2.8 is evilHowever.. I blame my host.
Yes…as you properly point out…that’s not a 2.8 issue…that’s a host issue. Personally, I would look for another host if this is a common occurrence.

In reply to: 2.8 upgrade – lost access to dashboardFirst thing…if you didn’t disable plugins before upgrading, then do that. See the following video for how to disable them via phpMyAdmin.

In reply to: [Plugin: Contact Form 7] Test email not receivedJust a guess…I installed this for a client a few months ago and had the same problem. The client was using windows hosting…I had her switch to a linux hosting account and had no more problems.

In reply to: 2.8 is evilIt wiped my website completely and it wiped 3 more website hosted on my server.
No it didn’t…if your sites were there and you properly upgraded, you may have problems and you may not be able to see your content until the problems are cleared, but it didn’t “wipe” your sites.

In reply to: The Culprit: “WordPress Automatic Upgrade”using the “WordPress Automatic Upgrade” plugin version 1.2.5.
Just to clarify…anyone using 2.7+ doesn’t need to use a plugin to upgrade…backup first, deactivate plugins, and then use the built-in auto upgrade.
Just my opinion here, but I would not use an “upgrade plugin” to go from a pre-2.7 version to 2.8. Depending on the version you are upgrading from, I would do manual, incremental upgrades to 2.7, and then use the built-in auto upgrade from there.

In reply to: 2.8 Update a catastropheAfter putting my trust in the automatic update to version 2.8 I have completly lost all my blog content.
I seriously doubt you lost your content…I don’t think there is anything in the upgrade that would cause this. You may not be able to see your content for some other reason, but it’s there.
If you didn’t disable your plugins before upgrading, a fix may be to do it now. If you can get to phpMyAdmin, see the following video on how to disable the plugins.

In reply to: WordPress 2.8: No toolbars & can’t read post textHow do I go back to wp 2.7.1. I can’t post and need to make some updates for readers.
Do you have a backup of your db before you upgraded?

In reply to: 2.8 upgraded, but Database Upgrade Required.. WTF?It’s always good practice to deactivate all plugins before upgrading. If you can do that through the admin interface, give it a try…if not, see the following to deactivate them through phpMyAdmin.
