Ah found the problem thanks to investigation re that checkbox missing. I did not have all the files from the wp-includes directory uploaded – particularly the js one which holds the TinyMCE program

Thanks for the advice webjunk but I don’t appear to have a checkbox or option for that in my user profile. I have just updated to 2.7.1 from 2.3 or something and it was working fine before so could it be related to the upgrade?
