    Thanks for the reply, but maybe I didn’t explain what I want very well. I don’t want to tag the post because the post may refer to several people. I want the tags to refer to a category of posts (all those mentioning a particular person), not a particular post.

    For example, post A mentions Mr X and Ms Y. So I place the post in the category for Mr X and the category for Ms Y. If I want people categorised according to sex, tagging the post with ‘male’ and ‘female’ isn’t very helpful. I’d like to be able to tag Mr X’s category as ‘male’ and likewise for Ms Y.

    Essentially, what I want is subcategorisation. I could make a category tree like People > Male > Mr X, but I want people to fit into various other categories. If Mr X is a doctor and has blue eyes, I want him in those categories as well.

    I hope that made some sense.
