I have the same problem. I can’t find any sort of answer to this. Stats gets a freaking standing ovation from me for creating so many headaches.
I have a similar problem. What happened is that a friend set up my blog and he used his API key but he can’t give me his wordpress login. So I can’t log in…and my own account doesn’t work.
Whoever wrote stats gets a freaking standing ovation from me.
