Jade, thanks for your response, but as I already mentioned the file rights are okay, www-data has all rights it needs.
This error happens ONLY when I try to edit a form, all other wpforms pages are working, even the form itself!
I guess this happened with an upgrade from an earlier version. The error exists at least since WordPress 5.4.2
