I finally got WordPress updated by downloading the new version and then uploading it over the top of the existing version.
All appears to be working normally now.
Thanks for your help, appreciated.I can’t
Could you possibly tell me how?
The issue you’re currently experiencing is due to the outdated WordPress version you’re currently running. You’ll need to update the WordPress to the latest version first.
yes I was already aware of that. My problem as I explained is I am unable to update WordPress.
If you’re having trouble with updating WordPress to the latest version, your web hosting provider may be the best place to assist you with this.
as I stated earlier
I have managed to set up version of WordPress on my new Nas,
, so am I correct in thinking I don’t have a web host provider?
Help appreciated thanks

Having done some more research I have discovered that WordPress is lying to me.
I also downloaded and configured Easy Updates Manager and made the following change to my WP–config.php file, as per the instructions on their site.
Manually Enable Automatic Update for Major Releases in WordPress
This method requires you to add code to your WordPress files.First, you need to add the following line of code to your site’s wp-config.php file.

define( ‘WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE’, true );It made no difference.
Well I took a deep breath and used phpmyadmin. It worked. Thanks to those who posted trying to help.
Of course, I am now back where I started. Can anyone point me to some help on pointing the site to the subdomain address?
Thanks again
I have just tried typing in
“http://****.*************.com/wp/wp-admin/options-general.php”which gets me to the options. I then tried to change “WordPress address (URI):” back to “http://www.*************.com/wp/
BUT, when I try to save this I get the message in the title.
I’m struggling…
I could still use some help to sort this !
Additional Info; I ‘think’ I may have entered the incorrect url into WP when I tried to update the URL.
The errors are as reported above though.
A wild guess on my part – should I be rooting around MySQL? If so, what do I need to do? Can anyone help with this?
Well it should have, but I don’t quite understand it. I am relatively new to most of this stuff and may have overextended myself.
I set up WP at http://www.***********.com/wp/
Everything worked just fine.I then set up a subdomain on the server at www.****.***********.com. This points to the /WP/ directory, as above.
Then I changed my WP settings to www.****.***********.com and my problems started.
I did not alter any thing else, no file moving etcHelp
