Update: Siteground support is of the opinion that there have to be Parent pages publicly posted before the Parent attribute drop-down appears in the Page Edit screen. The Parent page that I’m looking to embed Child pages into is my website home page. I am assuming that a WP home (index) page should automatically be a candidate Parent page, shouldn’t it? Ie, if the Parent attribute was appearing on my page edit screen now (which it isn’t), wouldn’t it contain at least one drop-down list item for that home page? Maybe I need a primer on the algorithm behind that parent-child page function.
I am having this same problem. As WP online doc says, there should be a drop-down list for “Parent” in the “Page Attributes” area when editing a Page (located in the right had side of the edit screen). I see a Page Attributes group area, but this particular Parent attribute is missing (only the “Order” attribute w/parm edit field is shown). I have already created multiple Pages and am now trying to add them as Child pages to the home page of my website.
FWIW: I’m using a siteground.com theme “Business Meeting” installed on WP 3.5.1.
