Ok, I dropped the database tables and reinstalled and it worked fine this time. My host is ASPNix.com, who I have used for the last 5 years, and have also used for WordPress blogs in the past. So I knew they supported WordPress, even though they are a asp.net host. They have PHP 5 and MySQL 5 installed…

    Thanks again for the help!

Thanks Michael – I was able to use phpMyAdmin to get into the database. Turned out there were NO users set up. So I did an insert and created a new user that I can use to log in with. The problem is that I don’t have admin permissions and I can’t quite figure out how to grant admin permissions to my user in phpMyAdmin. Are there instructions somewhere on doing that? I think it’s in the wp_usermeta table, but I have no idea what the values for those fields need to be (other than the userid) for it to work…

    Thanks again for the help!

Sorry, what field does this string go in? Is it in the meta_key, or the meta_value field?

Thanks for reply – Yes, the settings are correct, sort of…

I can connect to my database using a MySQL client (currently just using phpMyAdmin) so the host, username and passwords are all correct. But my hosting company no longer lists my WP database in my list of databases (using their ‘control panel’ UI). I’m not entirely sure what that means in real terms – since the db IS there, and my data IS in the db, and I CAN log into it – but it must have some affect since I can’t install, upgrade or run WP at this point.

I have a support ticket into the hosting company and hopefully they’ll get back to me soon. It looks like either they’ll restore the association and it will work again, or I’ll need to create a new MySQL database, point WP to that, then restore my data to the new db…

Thanks! I inserted the exit line (already have the final version) and it worked like a charm.

    Thanks again –
