@Agbams.
You will probably need to log into your database using phpMyAdmin.
You may need to change https:// to http:// in the option_value column of the wp_options table for option_name values siteurl and home.
If these are already set to http:// or correcting them to http:// does not help try and rename the better-wp-security folder.
Try all of the above at your own risk.

This is probably the same (known) issue as described in this topic.
It looks like this is a MultiSite Sub-domains type specific issue.
I cannot reproduce the issue in a MultiSite Sub-folders type install.
Note all the wp-admin slugs work from the My Sites drop down menu even though a different and hidden slug is defined using the iTSec plugin Hide Backend feature.dwinden

No assistance, just some good advise. Even though iThemes claims support for Multi Site don’t use the iTSec plugin in Multi Site. From a developer point of view it’s poorly implemented …
And no, your “brief manually written
<ol>to form a simple checklist” is not much help.
Too much details missing. Like number of sites in network, other active plugins , MySQL, PHP, Webserver, iTSec plugin version, browser (version) used, server specs etc etcInteresting case though. If you ever find out the exact performance bottleneck (which I’m sure you are capable of) we (the community) are all ears. Based on your reported 1000% to 2000% performance hit there seems to be an opportunity for a huge performance gain.
Anyway there are plenty of other Multi Site specific bugs in this plugin puppy …
Not much point in focusing on a possible performance issue while the basics are not even in place.Hope I didn’t ruin your day. Just sharing some info 😉

You may find some answers to your questions in this topic.
There is one thing that has changed in the iTSec plugin since that topic was created. According to the 5.2.0 changelog:
Enhancement: Updated the Database Backup feature to attempt a max memory limit of 256M rather than 128M as some users experience out of memory issues which could be fixed with the higher memory limit.

Disaster always seems to strike at the worst moment 😉
Let me rephrase my previous question. Are the values displayed in the Suggestion and Value column of the WordPress File Permissions metabox equal (‘= 444’ versus ‘0444’) for these 2 files ?
If not there may be a way to set these file permissions correctly without access to cPanel.
If not already enabled you could try and enable the File Writing Permissions setting in the System Tweaks section of the iTSec plugin Settings page.

No worries, happens all the time … Apologies for bumping this topic.
Is there 0444 showing in the ‘Value’ column for these 2 files ?
Refreshing the page in the browser is the only way to update the info displayed after setting the correct file permissions on the OS.

@negue.c
It doesn’t seem to work when using localhost in the site URL.

As this issue seems to be solved please take a moment and mark this topic as ‘resolved’. 😉

Yes, this is a known bug which was introduced in the 4.8.0 (and higher) release.
You would probably need to downgrade to the 4.6.13 release to make this work again.
Alternatively you may find something usefull in this topic.
If the above info answers your question please mark this topic as ‘resolved’.

Log into the database using phpMyAdmin (or other tool).
Click on the wp_options table in the correct database.
Search for upload_path and upload_url_path in the option_name column.
Make sure the path stored in the option_value column points to the right location for these 2 options.Can’t make it any easier than that 😉

This topic probably answers your question.
Additionally please note that the One-Click Secure button does NOTHING as of the iTSec 5.2.0 (including 5.2.1 and 5.3.0) release.
