I was hoping to get more detailed steps to reproduce your issue.
“since version 5.4 when saving settings” does not qualify as exact steps to reproduce the issue. To me it looks more like the last step before the error occurs … ๐
There may be a miscommunication here … we all need to get used to the new UI.
Does the error occur when clicking on any Save Settings button or does the error only occur when clicking on the Database Backups Save Settings button ?

Since I provided you with the correct 5.4.x file to edit in a previous post, I was assuming you applied the necessary rewrite rule fix in that file.
If so, re-enabling the Disable PHP in Uploads setting should not break things again.

So it looks like it is actually a combination of Chrome with the Pinboard theme child that causes your issue. As you said it seems to work fine from Firefox.
I guess this topic can be marked as ‘resolved’.

Sounds like you are locked up.
Manually removing the Disable PHP in Uploads section from the .htaccess file should restore access to the site.
Then log into WordPress Dashboard and click on the System Tweaks Configure Settings button. Verify the Disable PHP in Uploads checkbox is ticked and then click on the Save Settings button.
That should write the changed rewrite rule to the .htaccess file.

Make sure the changed rewrite rule for Disable PHP in Uploads shows up when clicking on the Show Details button of the Server Config Rules.
Then check whether the changed rewrite rule is actually written to the .htaccess file.

Mr Aaron D. Campbell forgot to mention that the script is used to validate email addresses entered into the Email Address field of the Download Our WordPress Security Pocket Guide sidebar widget …
Since that widget does not exist in the iTSec Pro version this was only an issue for the free plugin on wordpress.org as of the 5.4.0 release. The script wasn’t enqueued in any older releases of the plugin.
dwinden
Correct that won’t work. You need to replace it in the wp-content/plugins/better-wp-security/core/modules/system-tweaks/config-generators.php file.
The tweaks have been split into multiple folders and the filenames have changed as well.
But the bug is still there … ๐

@RealEstateTechCoachGuy
According to the 5.4.0 Changelog:
Enhancement: New automatic temp whitelisting of IPs for users that manage iThemes Security settings.
