In reply to: [Contact Form 7] Docx file upload in form crashing site and not workingWe’ve been experiencing the same issue of 502 Gateway (site crashing) when uploading .docx files using Contact Form 7.
I spoke to our server/hosint provider Godaddy, and it turns our their Shared Hosting service does not allow any .docx files to be unloaded due to security issues. There is a specific filter Godaddy has in place that stops the uploading of .docx files, which causes the site to crash.
This is clearly strange, since the file format is very common, and one would expect users to upload Word documents from the latest version of Microsoft Office. The agent I talked to didn’t know about this filter until he investigated my problem further. He acknowledged that it’s unreasonable to block out such a common file format, but that it was necessary to protect other sites on the shared server.
He suggested that we go to a privately managed server, instead of a shared one, that way, the blocking feature could be lifted, and any vulnerability would impact only our site, and not others.
He informed me that he’ll chase up with people who make the decisions about the potential of this filter being removed anytime in the future.
Disappointed with Godadd’s policy of .docx but can’t fault their customer service. Second to none.

In reply to: [Contact Form 7] Docx file upload in form crashing site and not workingFrustratingly, I’m experiencing the same problem today. Nothing updated from my end, so confused as to what could have happened.
This problem happened for about a week a few weeks ago, and suddenly worked again. But I cannot have this problem happening on and off.
Last time, I called our host server company, and they couldn’t figure out what happened. Can someone please look into this.
Hi barnez,
Thank you so much for your assistance; your support is awesome!
Thought I’d update an update. For some miraculous reason, the forms are working again. Not quite sure why though, but I’m receiving applications with .docx files. I’ve done plenty of tests on multiple computers, including asking those clients who failed in theirs previously to try again.
I didn’t update any plugins, as there weren’t any available, and I wasn’t able to debug as well. So here’s to hoping things stay as they are!
Kind regards,

In reply to: [Contact Form 7] 502 (Bad Gateway) when attached a doc file@kmc25 How did you resolve this issue? We’re experiencing the same problem. PDF is fine, but Word files crashes the site with 502 error message.
Hi barnez,
Really appreciate your reply.
Honestly, I am slightly nervous about attempting to do the first two points. The Enabling debugging – is that a plugin that does the debugging automatically when activated, or just identifies them? I’ll definitely switch to the default 2016 theme tonight and check for potential conflicts with other plugins.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Kind regards,
Dan
