I ended up getting help via a plugin, worked super simply and so far no known problems.

Thank you, but as seems to be the case that was very beneficial for subdirectories (example.com/wp) but i’m trying to figure out for subdomains (wp.example.com). I know lots use this so it must be out there i’m assuming i’m just using the correct wording?
