The greyish space with diagonal lines to the right of the sidebar is the bit I want narrower.

I think it appeared there after I put a ‘text’ widget in the footer with some adsense code. The adsense didn’t show up, and I deleted the text widget, however shortly after I did this, the adsense ad below the footer showed up.

The dark grey footer is supposed to be the bottom of the site and was up until recently. However now there is a white bar beneath the footer with and adsense ad, and I don’t know how it got there.
There is no option on my theme to put an adsense ad there and I haven’t done any custom coding.
How can I get rid of the white bar and adsense ad and make the footer the very bottom of my site?
