Many of us have encountered this before. Before you drive yourself crazy with it, I wrote up a few solutions. I was actually trying to solve a different problem, but it solved that one too:

WordPress admin password protection 404 — try the one that says Ah, try this one!

It solves the mod_rewrite problem when WordPress is in the root folder.

Hm. Wait a minute. Where (in which folder) is the .htaccess for WordPress?

I ask because some of us were experiencing a heck of a problem (when WP is installed in the website root folder – where the home page is). While yours isn’t, if the .htaccess is there, you’ll have the same problem.

That said, I’m going to guess that that’s not the problem because it works in Firefox. I’m a little stumped at this point … *unless* you have different settings for IE7 and Firefox. I’d look there first.

It looks like your design is there, so I’m not sure it’s been hacked. Could you explain more (“messing things up” doesn’t tell us a lot)?

Okay. What I was saying is that if, for instance, your host provides cPanel, and you set up a database named “xyz” — cPanel will append that to your web hosting account username (something like “username_xyz”).

It does the same thing with the database user name.

I just took a look; it looks like Bluehost does provide cPanel. How are you setting up the database?

There are two places in WP that set the visual editor. Have you checked both?
