Please see this portfolio entry. Notice the missing and yellow images. These were reimported. But the system is calling on converted webpage files still even thought the plug-in is TURNED OFF.
Please advise exactly how to put my site structure back to what it was prior to “trying out “ this Smush plugin.

Smush was taking forever to compress images as far as I could tell. It would quit and I had to restart like 5 times. Apparently it never finished. Unbeknownst to me it was deleting years and years of folders of images. All we are left with is a partial 2015 and a partial 2024 folder. I am asking you, where are the images now? What folder? I do not have a back up because too much time has passed and the site hosting company is on a time limit of 14 days backup. If I turn this plugin back in, will there be further damage?

Do you use any plugin that transforms your jpg to webp – and then uses these webp instead.? see :
supposedly it is a jpg according to the file extension – in fact it is a webp. The conversion may be the reason for the color shift.

I have not tried to “recover “ the original images. I turned OFF the Plugin. The current live folder is missing all uploads from 2010 to 2024 except for 2 folders (2017 and 2024, and there are images missing from inside these)

Where did your plugin put the original images? I cant find them anywhere, yet the servier is serving the old images. Some are JPG some files are served as webp images, WTF!
I’m afraid to turn this back on until i hear from you and time is of the essence since the site hosting company is deleting my site backups on a daily basis. We have lost 2 days now.
Tell me how to restore these original files. I need exact steps immediately.
As well, I turned this plugin off to stop the bleeding. I do not know about the “backup” option being enabled. Wouldn’t that be a default setting? We have all image uploads from 2015 to 2024 missing. Were the did it go?
We are having a disaster related I believe to SMUSH plugin. The file directory of uploads has been stripped of most of the 15 years of development. Where do the files go? As well currently images are being created with a yellow tint. And the wp theme is behaving oddly in that it is displaying images that say.jpg but are in fact webp files. I presume this is a smush issue since the only other plugin running is W3 total casche.
The missing Style icon set appears after I switch to WP 2024 Theme.
I turned off all the PlugIns and then turned them back on. It is most likely the theme itself over riding the Gutenberg system. This “CRUSH” theme was designed before Gutenberg was introduced and now the developer is MIA.
I have years of work into this site and dont feel like starting over because of some gutter spacing.
Is there any way to inject some code into this LOGOS page so as to only affect the padding around these static images?

Where are you pulling the Category / Taxonomy Settings from? Are you tasking these from only “Posts”? what if I need to create a “Page” whereby the title of the page is linked to a menu item where the gallery will show up? Also we use Portfolio and rarely use Posts. And your taxonomy terms are being pilled from Posts. ;-/
