Esmi, I have checked with my host provider. They assure me I have full ownership in that directory. It makes no sense that the upgrades (and plugins)have forever upgraded automatically. Now I’ve upgrade manually to 3.3.2 and have another issue (which I’ve addressed on another post in this forum) with my webspace being blank.
I tried all the default themes. No luck. As a matter of fact, when I try to preview the default themes all I get is a blank screen in the preview.

I can sign on to my dashboard at http://blog.davidmcguffin.com/wp-admin
and manulipate eveything there.
