Hmm… that’s interesting.

My guess would be that it’s an issue with the version of Ghostscript installed on your server. I tested with Ghostscript 9.10 and the “Amherst Plan” looks good.

Can you do a couple of things for me?

First, I’d like to know whether your server is using Ghostscript directly or through IMagick. If you post the information at the bottom of Dashboard -> Settings -> Document Gallery -> Advanced that will give me this information.

The other thing I want to know is what version of GS your server has installed. For that you, may not be able to answer that question directly, but if you have SSH access you can run gs --version (assuming you are not running on Windows). If you *do not* have SSH access, you’ll need to contact your host and ask them what gs version is installed. Hosts like to keep very old versions installed, which have a number of bugs resolved in later versions.

This is an interesting issue. I’m not immediately sure what has happened, beyond the fact that the options structure in your most recent post is invalid (somehow it got corrupted).

I’ve developed some test code which should resolve the issue in the short term as well as generate some debugging information for me to be able to find the root of the problem. This patch involves replacing the contents of inc/class-document-gallery.php under the Document Gallery install root with this: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=ZFKSD5ws.

This test code can be applied without you having to perform an uninstall/reinstall. If your WP install has plugin editing functionality enabled, that will be the easiest way to perform this patch. Simply navigate to Dashboard -> Plugins -> Editor and select Document Gallery in the editor combobox, then click the name of the file mentioned above.

If the above is not possible, the less easy option will require you accessing your server and updating the file over FTP. I can describe this process in detail if needed.

Once you’ve copied this file over, I would expect the issues you are experiencing to go away, but there will be some additional debugging steps to find what is actually breaking things. I’ll describe that once we have this step out of the way.

This is not currently supported, however it’s actually been on a list of items to support in keeping with our goal of providing similar functionality to the gallery shortcode (which does support this type of ordering) for a broader range of file types.
