You’re a mensch! Alternatively, it really would be fine with me to just disable the automatic response to someone submitting a comment. But I suspect that once you’ve got a puzzle like this, you really want to track it down. Maybe you should brand yourself as The Code Bloodhound.

Tried that. No more error message, BUT–would you believe?–I still get “Your comment is awaiting moderation,” rather than “Thanks I will get back to you shortly.”

    What a puzzle.

as that should not give you error recheck leave all the rest as is you must have deleted (‘ ‘)

I agree that simply changing the sentence shouldn’t give me an error message, but it does. (‘ ‘) remained intact–just changed the copy in between.

    Sigh.

Tried that already–and again just now. Here’s what I get:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/dalicen/public_html/dr(snip)info/wp-includes/comment-template.php on line 1359

Any chance there’s an easy way to disable the after-submission response entirely?

You make change Leave a Reply and Post Comment and save the file and upload back if you used ftp if you used server editor then your file is saved.

You may have to refresh to see the change.

Thanks bunches! That worked. Next question:Now when a message is submitted, a response pops up on the page that reads:

    [Submitter’s name] says:
    Your comment is awaiting moderation.”

I tried editing the code so it would show the submitter’s name, followed by a comma, and then “Thanks! I’ll get back to you shortly!” but my efforts resulted only in error messages and the page not loading at all.

I would like to make the change as described in the paragraph above, OR just disable entirely the response that pops up on the page after an inquiry is submitted. Any help you can provide is HUGELY appreciated!!

TAA-DAA!!! That did it! Earlier I had img src starting with “wp_content/,” so I changed it to include the entire URL for the image. Still, would be great if all the pages could find the file internally, instead of having to go around the internet’s elbow to get to the site’s thumb, so to speak.

Thanks so much for your help. It took ruling out things to get me to the point of seeing what else it might be.

Check to make sure the <?php get_footer(); ?> function is being called in static pages

    Yep, it’s there, too.

Footer is called to all pages, but the footer widget doesn’t propagate beyond the index page.

I’ve just checked the site out in IE–I use Firefox as my default. In IE the symbol for a broken image shows on all pages but the home page, where again the widget shows up fine. I’m going back into the widget’s html to see if I can make a change there that will fix it.

Check to make sure the <?php get_footer(); ?> function is being called in your page.php, single.php, index.php file. It should be below the sidebar call.

All were/are present. Any other suggestions?

Thanks for your time on this!

are you saying the footer shows up on all pages but not the footer widgets?

Yes, that’s it exactly. The footer shows on every page, but a footer widget I added shows only on the home page. Odd, yes?

f you;re only going to do a second install in the same database, you need to set up a second folder with all the wordpress files in it.

Then when you go to do the regualr install, just fill in a different db table prefix. instead of wp_, pick wp2_ for example. then install as usual.

Andrea, thanks for the response. Between the time I posted my original question and now I had a medical emergency and am still on some thought-impeding drugs, so I’m more fuzzy-brained than usual. I need to be a pain in the neck and ask you to be more specific.

When you say I need to set up a second folder with the wordpress files in it, do I need to give a particular name to it, or to any of the files in it? Am I uploading the entire folder during installation, or only files in the folder? As for designating a new db table prefix, is that something I’ll be prompted to do during installation? I’m lost here.

FYI, I’m transferring files by a stand-alone FTP client. Using cpanel and MySQL Databases, I have only one active database–the current wordpress db, designated wrdp1. Am I going to install wordpress again alongside the original, or does the second installation happen within the original?

Sorry to be a pain, but I’m losing track of what I’m supposed to do, shifting from this page to the install page to cpanel to ftp and the different directories among them. I would appreciate as much of a step-by-step instruction list as you can do.

    Thanks tons–

    Deb

At this point I’m not expecting to have more than one additional WP site, so I’m guessing it may be easier, or at least less complicated, (?) if I were to do a 2nd install in the one database. (But if the multisite feature would be simpler, then I’ll be happy to do that.) Thanks!

I’m late to this conversation, which I got to by a search. I want to use WP on a 2nd subdomain, having run WP on one for several years. When it comes time to edit the wp_config.php file, I read

// You can have multiple installations in one database if you give each a unique prefix
$table_prefix = ‘wp_’; // Only numbers, letters, and underscores please!

But WHERE does the prefix go? Prefix to what? Am I to change the name to wp_newprefix_config.php? DO I need to have two wp_config files uploaded to my root directory? Or is there some place within the existing wp_config.php file where I need to change and/or add a new line?

Please assume I’m stupid and spell it out. Getting the PhD used up a lot of brain cells.

    Thanks bunches.

Moshu, I have contacted the host (se above), and from what the first rep could tell, it wasn’t the server. But a technician is looking at it next. (Which, hopefully, means now.)
