In reply to: Missing edit facility?!Naek, When you say “fresh” installs, what exactly does that mean? Are you starting with an empty public html folder?

In reply to: Missing edit facility?!NaeK, As I mentioned, I, as you put it, down-graded to 2.9.2. However, I did it through FantasticoDeluxe. The reason I think the means of “down-grading” is important is because the existing files are first deleted before the new ones are installed. I downloaded and saved my wp-contents folder and database as a precaution as I have modified my theme a bit and I didn’t want to take a chance of having to repeat that effort. Fortunately, I didn’t need it. The reason I think deleting the 3.0 files first is necessary is that there are numerous files that are unique to 3.0 that weren’t in 2.X. Hence, uploading the 2.X files and simply replacing the files of the same name would not get rid of the extra files.
It appears that the problem with the 3.0 installation is likely the auto-upgrade process and not the version itself. I have been involved in another thread on much the same topic and I received this post:
DaBum, I installed it on a NEW site and it worked. But I have a friend who used the auto-upgrade, that’s the one that’s broken. My own main site…I’ve decided not to upgrade for now. I’ll wait for the glitches to be worked out.
In any case, I will wait to upgrade until I feel certain that it will function properly. I hope this helps.
amomandherblog, That’s really interesting. I was concerned that the newest version was messed up. It’s heartening to know that it is only the auto upgrade that doesn’t work. I didn’t want to think that the WP developers were not paying attention to the functionality of new releases. Like you I will wait for the glitches to be resolved. I’m sure that some of the plugins I’m using will eventually not be supported for 2.X. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

In reply to: Missing edit facility?!I resolved all of my problems by going through cpanel and using FantasticoDeluxe updates feature to reinstall WP 2.9.2. Sorry WP team, I couldn’t wait any longer for a solution to this. As I have no intention of utilizing the multiple sites feature touted in 3.0 I saw no use in making myself miserable for another minute. I was certainly satisfied with the performance of the last version.

I meticulously followed the following prescription:
renamed plugins folder to plugins.hold
created an empty folder named plugins
uploaded a fresh wp-admin folder and contents (replacing the existing files)
uploaded a fresh wp-includes folder and contents (replacing the existing files)
deleted the empty plugins folder
renamed the plugins.hold back to plugins
cleared the cacheNothing changed. I still can’t create new posts or pages or edit existing ones. Still the same blank white page when attempting to create new or edit existing. What should I try next?
BTW, amomandherblog, to answer your question re: “submit for review,” when clicking “New Post” I get the same blank page as when I try to edit an existing post. No new posts for me until this is resolved, reviewed or otherwise.
Hey amomandherblog, do you have a 3.0 site that is functioning? It would be nice to know if someone actually has a fully functional site with the new WP version.
This is similar to the problems I have been experiencing. I updated files successfully and then I did the auto update to 3.0 and immediately was no longer able to edit anything. When I click edit on an existing post I get a blank page that no longer is trying to load the page. This also happens from the dashboard/posts list. Edit goes to a blank screen and quick edit simply doesn’t do anything. Even putting my site into maintenance mode doesn’t work. It reports that the settings have been saved but the site is still online.
Please WordPress developers, we need your attention and assistance. I have posted this issue in another thread but the only response was from esmi with suggestions that were appreciated but didn’t work.

In reply to: Missing edit facility?!I tried to put my site in maintenance mode. Everything seemed fine: “settings saved” but my site is still online. I was tempted to selectively replace some 3.0 files with 2.9.2 files, the last version I had before the problem started. But I figured it would be to risky since I’m simply guessing which files to replace combined with not being able to activate maintenance mode. Not sure what would happen. The site is up and reachable as it sits and I don’t know what they would get if the site was inoperable because of something I inadvertently do. I’d hate to simply be offline without a maintenance message. Any top dogs from WP reading these messages?

In reply to: Missing edit facility?!Can anyone tell me how to reinstall the last version of WP? I’d prefer to put up with “Update Now” message then not be able to edit anything. I suggest that the message be removed until this issue can be resolved.

In reply to: Missing edit facility?!I am having the same issue. Immediately after updating to 3.0 the edit pages were unavailable… just a white page with the indication that it was done loading. Anybody??…
