Thanks for the tip, agentfitz. I did update Chrome. The white rectangle is still there in the WordPress admin area, just a little smaller. Right now the solution seems to be to use Firefox instead of Chrome to write posts and administer my blog, or a Macintosh instead of a PC.

If you Google “white rectangle on screen” or a similar phrase, you’ll find this is a recurring bug with Windows. Experiencing it with Chrome/WordPress 3.2.1 combination is just the most recent example.

If you Google “white rectangle in middle of screen” you’ll see this is a recurring problem for Windows computers. When I tried to use Firebug in Firefox to check out the problem, I found no white rectangle. So it has to do with the interaction of Chrome, the WordPress 3.2.1 admin area and Windows. I’m using Windows Vista. Perhaps the people who usually answer questions can’t duplicate the problem because they are using Macs with Safari or Firefox. Maybe the temporary solution is to use Firefox when I want to access my blog’s WordPress admin area.

The easiest way to duplicate the problem in WordPress 3.2.1 is to create a new post and go through the process of inserting a graphic. When the screen shades out in this process, you can see the white rectangle. This only occurs using Chrome as the browser, and only in the “behind the scenes” admin area of WordPress. It does not occur when using Firefox. It does not occur on the desktop or other browser windows of other websites. It seems to be a bug with WordPress and Chrome. Ideas?

It doesn’t seem to be present when using Firefox, but it is when using Chrome.

I’m having the same problem after upgrading. It only occurs within WordPress and makes it hard to load graphics because it covers the button for choosing the file name of the graphic to load. I can provide a screen capture, but I don’t see how to load one here. This seems to be a perennial problem that is usually solved by changing your desktop graphic to anything else, then changing it back again. That’s not helping here. Ideas?
