Make sure the checkbox “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” under Settings -> Reading is UNCHECKED. Otherwise you won’t be able to allow indexing.

With an unedited twentyeleven layout, mobile browsers display a nice single-column layout with a listing of recent posts and categories. As you’ll see, the child theme displays the regular homepage in mobile browsers but it is very distorted.
