Solved the problem based on this post: https://easydigitaldownloads.com/forums/topic/payment-status-failed-although-all-ok-in-paypal/
Because I added text to Donation Confirmation page on my site which prompts the user to try again if the receipt is blank or marked as failed, I had the “Success Page” and “Failed Transaction Page” under General Settings both set to the Donation Confirmation page.
I recalled that “Failed Transaction Page” was originally set to blank when I went live with the plugin, so once I reverted it back to blank (i.e. not the same setting as “Success Page”), my test transactions now remain in complete status.
Lesson learned! Maybe update the plugin to prevent users from setting the “Success Page” and “Failed Transaction Page” to the same page (with the exception of blank)?
I’ve set it back to Live Mode just in case:

Correction to my last: the transaction IDs under Payment Notes are those assigned by the plugin, not PayPal.
Version 1.5.2 fixed the issue. Thanks for the quick turnaround!
Would a possible workaround be to temporarily revert versions of WordPress or Give on my WordPress site until Give v.1.5.2 is available?
