There are over 10 page templates available, each designed for different file types. You can try using another template.
There are several other page templates you can use. But if you still want to use old templates, you can download an older version from here https://wordpress.org/plugins/download-manager/advanced/ and copy the page template an place them in your active theme dir.

So if also have older version of recaptcha active from other plugin that may cause conflict, you need to deactivate captcha from any of those plugin. Also wpdm doesn’t load reCaptcha where it is not needed. Like if you activate it for login page, them it only will load and show on login page.
“More JS loaded on 99% pages for zero reason.” <– may you please be more specific, which js file you are talking about, if we miss something, certainly we shall optimize it with the next update.
