In reply to: Black diamonds with question marks in my restoreJust wanted to say a massive thank you for posting this: it suddenly started happening, without any apparent reason in a 2.9.2 install.
All is now working,so thank yo!
Best wishes

In reply to: USER LIMIT? …for WordPress 2.7*Hi Otto, thanks very much, good stuff. So a site with a couple of thousand users, each with their own page to load images to would work better if everything was post driven?

In reply to: USER LIMIT? …for WordPress 2.7*Can I ask, realistically, how many pages and users I could have on a site without running into issues?

In reply to: [Plugin: Maintenance Mode] Stay away from this the maintenance mode pluginHi there, we always have our installations in a wp folder but the blog url always set to root level. We have never got maintenance mode to work with this scenario. It is fine if the blog address is set to the same as the wordpress address but the minute we change the blog address, everyone (whether logged in or not) is always shown the maintenance mode page. Not sure how to get round this?

In reply to: Cannot delete old sub-categories … they are invisible.OK, I managed to fix it. In phpmyadmin, I saw that the table wp_term_taxonomy has got a field called Parent. All my missing categories were assigned with a value of 51 (the deleted parent category id). I edited each one, changed it back to 0 and all is now good.
I expect it could have been done at a stroke using a Query but I wasn’t sure what to do. Perhaps someone could enlighten me?
Cheers! 🙂

In reply to: Cannot delete old sub-categories … they are invisible.Same thing just happened to me but unfortunately I can’t reinstall wp as too much work was being done by my partner in another area. I deleted the parent category of 50 sub categories and they are no longer on my list in “Manage Categories” but are in the database.
I wonder if there is a way to “rebuild” the category structure?

In reply to: [Plugin: NextGEN Gallery] Cannot upload images (wp 2.51)Hi Alex, I think so. Flash upload works perfectly on all of my installs except these two, I now wonder if there’s a plugin causing a conflict? I am doing another test install and will double-check
A great pity. I wonder if there is another way to speed up wordpress sites that use theme switching…
Hi there, I don’t think it works, never did for me anyway but it would be wonderful if it did. My experiece was that it couldn’t tell the difference between the themes, so it just rendered it ineffective. Why not try it on a test site?

In reply to: wp-offlineOK, taking out the css file from the plugin folder made the link appear, which is great! Unfotunately, it stopped at 75% progress for ages and then claimed an image was missing from a particular folder in another plugin.
I removed the plugin in question, reinstalled the wp-offline plugin and regenerated the JSON manifestt. tried again. Again, it stopped at 75% but then it finally appeared to complete, after a long delay…
I don’t if anyone else has managed to get round these problems but I thought I would keep posting my experiences until I get it cracked… 🙂

In reply to: wp-offlineWell, made a bit more progress, I managed to get the “this site has Google Gears on it” box appear by putting the full path in wp-offline.js and omitting the trailing slaslh which had somehow got in there.. just need to get the online / offline options appearing now………

In reply to: wp-offlineHi there, thanks very much for the link. However, I don’t want to do anything other than get this wp-offline working on my sites with Google Gears because I want to just demonstrate my websites to potential clients and have an easy way of keeping these offline versions up to date (about 50 of them).

In reply to: wp-offlineHi there, thanks for your reply, I have seen the article and tried to do it but it kept crashing. 🙁 Anyway, it’s purely for being able to demonstrate my websites offline that I have been looking at different options. A friend of mine with very little computer experience (but a really good sales manner) is going to be acting as an agent for me in another Town. She has a laptop but doesn’t posses the skills to set up XAAMP. Also, she only wants to demonstrate my websites (50+ of them), not do anything else.
Right now I have resorted to just taking screenshots of my sites which hardly shows them working but at least allows people to see what they look like.
Here are a couple of links on wp-offline:

(he wrote it)
http://personallearningenvironments.wordpress.com/2007/11/12/wp-offline-google-gears-and-wordpress/
These are all I could find on it. I am surprised that there isn’t more info about it as I think it is revolutionary but there isn’t that I can see.
Cheers
Clive

In reply to: How to rebuild my WordPress DatabaseActually. it turned out to be a lot simpler in the end. The permissions on the database were not quite correctly set. In addition, resaving wp_term_relationships semmed to solve it. Certainly, all seems fine now. I wanted to mention this because this issue did not seem to be plugin related..
