Totally @adrearubin, I also had to take the decision to convince client to live with not having a open in new tab option or ditch it and I recreate all the forms again with some other plugin.

That’s pretty bad I would imagine a plugin of this scale would have this tiny option of adding target to the link or even a hook 🙁

You need to upgrade both PHP and WP to the latest version nothing else you can do, in any case by now you already should be PHP7.0 and above
It is happening because Yoast decided they will not support WordPress below 4.9.8 and PHP < 7.0
and after a number of complaints, they are planning to add backward compatibility at least that’s what they said and its been 3 weeksForum: Plugins
