I used one-word references. Examples:

Didn’t try using the ID # tag instead of ID *NAME*, and that works.

WordPress 4.0.1 running Responsive theme, using MaxButtons v1.29.
I deactivated, re-activated as well as deleted and reinstalled the plugin with no success.
Neither the button or text relating to the button shows up at all – as if it doesn’t really exist.
