I worked out the size thing – it is in Theme Functions (functions.php).
The bit of interest is:
define(‘HEADER_IMAGE’, ‘%s/images/default_logo.png’);
define(‘HEADER_IMAGE_WIDTH’, 950);
define(‘HEADER_IMAGE_HEIGHT’, 90);
define(‘HEADER_TEXTCOLOR’, ‘555’);
define( ‘NO_HEADER_TEXT’, true );
The 950 was 160 as standard.

I contacted my host and they found my database was corrupt.
Re-installed everything & so far so good!
