Thank you very much for your message. It is really helpful. I can confirm that my students are getting the points and that the award (achievement is set in advance).
I think I am going for a “Reach a point balance” approach. I can’t see this as a setting?

Thanks for your message.
Yes, I have found that it was the Buddyboss theme having a similar styling method to the login page. Once I turned that off, the problem is resolved.
