In reply to: [WordPress Importer] Categories and some other things out of wackFound it. Sorry for all the noise here. Anyhow the solution to my problem:
Permalink Settings.Before I ran the import I had permalinks set to “day and name”. After the import, none of the links worked so I changed the permalinks setting to “default” and now they all work correctly. Why this behaves this way I don’t know. Perhaps someone can fill me in on that as, I rather liked the day/name aesthetic. Anyways give that a shot if you had a similar experience. Best lesson here though is to backup things before they go haywire.

And also I notice now that if I create a new Category and new post, it still doesnt work. So it appears that some sort of master setting has been affected. Args. There should be a “back up you site before you do this” warning on the import menu.
