  • That’s quite odd as I’m using postname myself without issue.

Can you check what your WordPress Address URL and Site Address (URL) are set to in Dashboard->Settings->General?

If they don’t have a / on the end of each, put one in and save. The / will disappear but it will update the DB with the / inside. I’ve seen this sort of thing cause weird things with some plugin/theme combinations.

I’d change it to Default then change it back to Post Name. Make sure to save between.

Once that’s done, try the following and see if it helps:
Dashboard->Events->Settings –> Viewing Events tab and hit Save Settings.
Dashboard->Events->Theme Options and hit Save Options.

To figure it out we’d need to look at the output from the site (CSS and HTML), not just a screenshot.

Can you post a link? If you don’t want to post it in public, I suggest you create a post over on the forum at the Time.ly website. Post your issue (s above) then reply to your own post. On the second post, you’ll get the option to post a ‘private’ reply, so that someone from Time.ly (or one of the forum moderators) can look at it.

Note: Have you tried this with a different theme, like the standard TwentyFourteen or TwentyThirteen themes that come with WordPress? It’s possible you’ve got a CSS conflict that is causing the text to be blanked out.

Which permalink setting have you got selected in Dashboard->Settings->Permalinks ?

The main CSS of that theme you’re using is most likely the issue.

As soon as I disable it, the calendar is right under the text.

Does it do this sort of thing with any standard blog/post pages?

BTW: I attempted to cut up the CSS to try and figure out what the issue was, but it’s beyond me. IMO that CSS is quite horrid and if it was my site, I’d be looking for a new theme, even if there wasn’t an issue with the calendar.

The files are supposed to be located in …../wp-content/theme-ai1ec/ – These are calendar themes, not WP site themes, hence the different directory name.

If you upgraded from 1.x, then you need to clear the old theme files out first as 2.x will not properly process 1.x theme files.

You can then create your own calendar theme (do not use an existing theme name, and make sure to edit the theme file style.css with relevant info in your NEW theme). This is all in the link at https://time.ly/document/customize-calendar/create-new-calendar-theme/

Once you create a brand new template theme, you can then proceed by editing the twig templates (no PHP).

To do this you want to create a calendar child theme.

    https://time.ly/document/customize-calendar/create-new-calendar-theme/

Then you can copy and edit the twig files from …../all-in-one-event-calendar/public/themes-ai1ec/vortex/twig/ to the twig directory in your calendar child theme and edit them to add/remove/re-arrange the order of output.

Note that you only need to copy (then edit) the twig files that you want different output in. Any file that isn’t present in the calendar child theme will get its corresponding equivalent from the Vortex calendar theme.

eg: event-popup.twig controls the detail for the mouse-over popup. You can copy this to the calendar child theme and then edit it to show only what you want.

I’m assuming that this is an old version of the calendar, as I can’t find that file in any of the 2.x versions. Can you tell us which version you’re using?

If you do decide to update to a later version, I recommend you do a full file and DB backup (eg: through the cPanel or phpMyAdmin) before you upgrade. Some of the WP Backup tools only backup WP database tables, rather than everything.

Also note: The code has changed significantly, so if you’re using any custom hooks, they will have all changed/re-written. The custom child calendar themes have changed too, so if you’re using anything custom, you will want to use a test site to work on it all before deploying.

    Oh what fun! :/

Ahh.. the admin is of course a whole different issue. There is an add-on called Front End Event Submission that gives users an interface to add events, but I don’t think you can force Categories or Tags on users automatically, so that they can’t somehow put their event on the wrong calendar. :/

That said, if you can trust them to tag the events appropriately, that would work. The add-on however does cost money.

You may also find that the default “Event Contributor” role isn’t suitable (either you have other roles already, or you want them to post an event without approval from an admin). If you’re doing that, you cna edit the permissions of a role using something like Capability Manager Enhanced: https://wordpress.org/plugins/capability-manager-enhanced/ – I recommend you make a new role where possible, as any permissions may get rset if you ever have to reinstall the plugin.

    Hope this helps.

I would probably use Tags, assign each calendar a ‘Tag’ for each artist, and Tag their events to match the artist.

You can then use shortcode to limit the view to just the Tag that matches that artist. You will have to test if shortcode works in UserPro profiles though.

If you want a main calendar with a filter bar, but don’t want the filter bar on the artists pages, you might try hiding the bar on just those pages using CSS.

    Note: I don’t work for Time.ly, I just help out a lot. πŸ˜‰

    Which version are you using?

You should not need to edit the PHP to do this. In the widget is a dialog box that says “Number of days to show: “. Click the radio box next to this and then enter “1” as the value.

Firstly, there is an option to keep all events expanded in agenda view. This may or may not be useful though. Go to Dashboard->Events-Settings –> Viewing Settings tab and tick the box next to Keep all events expanded in Agenda view then hit Save Settings.

You might also find the Stream view is more what you’re looking for. It’s part of the (free) Extended Views add-on you can download from https://time.ly/downloads/extended-views/ – This will take you to a cart system but the item should be worth $0.00 so no payment required. After you install it, make sure to go to Dashboard->Events->Theme Options and hit Save Options so the CSS gets updated with the new views.

All that said, you can create a custom child calendar theme that implements a variation of the agenda view that removes the expand/collapse buttons. This requires editing the twig templates (twig is a templating language).

    Useful links: https://time.ly/document/customize-calendar/create-new-calendar-theme/

Once you create a skeleton child calendar theme, you need to copy the necessary twig template files from the …../all-in-one-event-calendar/public/themes-ai1ec/vortex/twig/ folder into a twig folder in the child calendar theme (create it if it doesn’t exist).

The file for the agenda is called agenda.twig

Documentation on the twig template language: http://twig.sensiolabs.org/documentation (most likely Twig for template designers will be most useful).

Note: There’s a fair bit in there that would need changing. If you get stuck, just ask. It’s always best to do any calendar theme/template designing on a test site (eg: a local WP/Calendar install, using a DB copied from a live install).

If you do not want ANY hover section for events, do the above and edit event-popup.twig so that it’s an empty file (do not delete). This will override the default one so that nothing gets shown.

The template system will fall back to the default files if you don’t define a new template. In this way, you don’t need to create a complete calendar theme from scratch, but just edit/blank the files you want to achieve the desired behaviour.

You might want to describe a bit more in detail what you’re trying to do?

    Do you:

    1. want a complete calendar that shows every event with views of that calendar that show just the events for a particular artist?

    2. only want to have calendars per artist, with no full view available?

Would the Agenda Widget be suitable for the page per artist, or are you after a specific type of view (eg: Posterboard, Stream, Monthly) or where they can choose the view?

What you’re asking should be either doable using shortcode to load a specific calendar with a specific filter (either tag or category, depending which better suits what you’re trying to do), or using something like Jetpack and/or Widgets on Pages to invoke the agenda widget with different filters (either in the sidebar, or on a specific page via Widgets on Pages shortcode).

A lot of the buttons (such as the calendar subscription and the “back to calendar” button can be disabled through settings. If you want to disable or edit the ‘filters’ bar (for tags and/or categories) so that the user can’t change what has been selected for them, you can create a child calendar theme and edit the templates to change or remove that behaviour fairly easily.

Note: I’ve not used or looked at UserPro, so I don’t know what it is capable of by itself. If you can embed shortcode on the profile page, then you can definitely use shortcodes to do what you want. Otherwise you might want to use something like Jetpack to display a specific Widget on that page (which would relate to that artist). This could be the standard Agenda Widget, or it could be a widget containing a calendar shortcode.

PS: Jetpack and Widgets on Pages are plugins from other vendors, and a number of users have used them (separately or together) to good effect with Ai1ec. Some features of Jetpack have been known to cause issues (media sharing usually), so it’s worth noting this just in case.
