I did an upgrade a while back and comments worked perfectly for quite a while after that upgrade (too well, in fact; they were mostly spam). I made no changes whatsoever in my settings or files before this problem appeared – no new plugins, no template changes, nothing. And I only have 3 active plugins: Explicit Category Sort, Dashborad Options and Subscribe me.

Regarding the search… humpf… I made several searches for magic quotes and add magic quotes, which came up empty… I forgot to include the understrokes. :/

Still, it doesn’t seem to be any of those problems, since they all arose after changes while mine came up without changing a thing… by me at least. I don’t know if my provider might have changed something in the settings without telling me.

In any case, replacing wp-comments-post.php with a fresh copy solved the problem.

    Thanks

OK, folks: problem solved. It turns out it had to do with whatever was wrong with the hosting: as email came back (sooner than I feared), so did all the WP functionalities.

    Thanks, all!

Yuck indeed. Thanks for your wishes, although if past experiences count for anything, I’m not expecting to have this thing solved before late tomorrow afternoon. Those datacenter guys are *really* incompetent. I’m putting pressure on the host (which is generally fine) to change to another datacenter, but they say they just paid for it and don’t have the resources right now to swap.

Anyway, once I have the problem of the email solved, I’ll post an update here, regardless of what happens with the WP blanking issue. I guess that even if it’s solved too that in itself may be interesting to someone that might have a similar problem in the future.

Yes, but the problem isn’t solved yet. They provide their service based on a datacenter in the US, the problem is there (and it’s not the first time something of the sort happens, although last time it was somewhat different and sent the whole site down, not just e-mail and some WP stuff)… and nobody picks up the phone at weekends. :/

    I am. 2.0.4, more specifically.

Meanwhile I just found another page that also gives me the blank: plugins.php?page=akismet/akismet.php

This blanked out when I tried to enter my API key. Which did not enter.

Hm… I see that through there you get access to one’s hosting area. Now I see the advantage. I won’t try it right away, though: I’m having some trouble with my hosting services (I’m without mail, for instance) and I want to make sure first that it isn’t having an impact on this problem. If the problems with the hosting are solved and the trouble with the wordpress installation remains, I’ll contact you there.

Hm? I was under the impression that getting help from the pros was the purpose of *this* forum?!

spencer, the blog appears just fine, all seems to work just fine (except the dashboard), which implies that there are no problems with the database, everything was properly backed up, the renaming of the folder where the old installation was (and still is) makes the new one, basically, a new one, and the fact that the blanking began before any changes were made proves that it has nothing to do with the changes.

That doesn’t seem to be it. I downloaded and installed the plagin (Dashboard Options), deactivated the three feeds, clicked the dashboard link… and blank. 🙁

    (@candeias)

    Blank.

Navigating around I notice that the only place I get blanked out is the dashboard

No and no: with edit.php I don’t get a blank page: it pops up!… (wheee! Not all is lost!) and I don’t have access to the servers error logs.

Ah, so that’s what it is. Yes, I do have a lot of services listed. I should trim the list, I guess, but I don’t really know which ones are the best to keep and which ones can be safely discarded.

Regarding the asynch plugin, you wouldn’t happen to know its name, do you?

    Thanks for the info.
