TL;DR
It’s possibly a bug that WPML team is looking into.
In the mean time be sure to use both codes from this page. If the ajaxied code example existed too in my code it did work.Forum: Plugins

I’d like to try and see what happens with different browsers, just to rule out any settings that may kill cookies/sessions for you.

Your problem sounds like an issue that existed in an older version of Woocommerce Multilingual and WPML.
Updates were done in November, that corrected all those problems for me.
Can you check that you are on the latest version of WPML and Woocommerce Multilingual?
