A quick solution with the version 1.1 is:
1- Create a category like 2012
2 – Create 2012 events by month
3 – Create a page with the shortcode [timelinr category=2012]We will take into account the group multiple events in the same year for a next version.

Please, send us the url of your page because probably you had installed a theme that is not compatible with timelinr.
