In reply to: Restoring Database through cpanel or FTP??Well.
I called my new crappy hosts and tried to get some help from them.
They insisted that all I had to do was use MyPhpAdmin to upload my database back up and it would all just magically appear on the web site.
I did that.
The only good thing is it hasn’t disabled the site like it did last time. But it hasn’t changed anything either. I am still only getting the wordpress welcome page.
Any idea’s? Am I missing a step here?? Once the database is in, is there magic button I press to make it actually put my posts and comments back up?

In reply to: Restoring Database through cpanel or FTP??James I just went to that page.
I have been in this spot before. Where I have wordpress installed and just need to get the posts back.
This is where it all went wrong last time. When I restored my back up following these steps.
On another post someone said I need to have the same version of wordpress but I actually am unsure of the exact version I DID have. All I know is I didn’t do an upgrade for a while (because I always mess it up and end up here for days needing help) My theory being if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.
When I did this last time it came up with all kinds of fatal errors and I wonder if it’s because the version of wordpress that is installed now is not the same one I had when I was at the other host. Is there a way to find out through my home dir what worpress I had and if yes, can I still download the older versions because I wont have it on my computer anymore.

In reply to: Fatal Error, what does this mean?Am I still able to download that version??
I have it now so I have wordpress installed. I have another post up now about trying to recover the posts/comments through FTP or sql file because I didn’t know about the import function through wordpress.

In reply to: Changed hosts, now have problems?I have a ticket open with them and just waiting on them now. Funny for 24/7 help desk they take over 10 hours to get back to you. And then it’s not advice or help anyway.
I wonder now if I should just suck up the extra $60 a year to stay with hostIcan?
When I say uploaded through cpanel.
For the larger file we went in to backups, chose the file to upload and did it.
For the smaller file that didn’t work so we went in through MyPhpAdmin, created a new database and uploaded the old file to it.

In reply to: Changed hosts, now have problems? So I downloaded two back ups. A great big one called backup-10.25.2010_02-05-59_discover.tar.gz and a smaller one called discover_bvlt1.sql. I also downloaded this file but don’t know what it is or if it’s needed. information_schema.sql.
I also went in via FTP and took the files. I didn’t know exactly what I needed so I took everything. it took forever. I have public_html included in that as well.
As of right now, the larger file has been uploaded to cpanel and the smaller one has been done too. Though I can’t check (don’t know how) if it’s been restored. If I just try to use their upload function it takes me to a largely blank page that says “restoring database” but it does nothing and seems frozen.
The wp-config.php from the old files is this…
`// ** MySQL settings – You can get this info from your web host ** //
/** The name of the database for WordPress */
define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘discover_wpblog1’);/** MySQL database username */
define(‘DB_USER’, ‘discover_wpblog1’);/** MySQL database password */
define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘*********’);/** MySQL hostname */
define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’);/** Database Charset to use in creating database tables. */
define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘latin1’);/** The Database Collate type. Don’t change this if in doubt. */
define(‘DB_COLLATE’, ”);Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Changed hosts, now have problems?I have the database at the new host but the old host has shut me down. Is that something I need to do with the new or old one?
I went to MyPhpadmin and clicked on the DB but can’t see an options button??
Thank you for your help.

In reply to: Changed hosts, now have problems? Thanks webjunk,
could you tell me what kind of google search I need to do to find someone who can do this for me (what profession does this sort of thing?)?
It’s probably going to end up at that, even though I feel the problem is probably easily fixed by my new hosts they are being ridiculously stupid.
I told them about these two errors and they wrote back “Yes, we can help you. Please browse your web site again. Please feel free to let us know if you’re having more problems”
Like, hello…that is NOT HELP!! I don’t have a web site to browse!?
This is so frustrating.

In reply to: Fatal Error, what does this mean?I did have 2.7. I haven’t bothered with an updated version for ages.
I read the link you gave me and for what I am doing it says that if I am moving server’s but NOT changing domain names then all I need to do is edit my wp-config.php
I follwed the directions best I could but it still comes up saying I need the file. I must be doing something wrong and I don’t know what!?
Any idea’s??

In reply to: Fatal Error, what does this mean?Well when we installed a fresh version of wordpress it went to that first ever page (welcome to your site, please start editing now) and then when we uploaded my public_html from the OLD host it went hay wire.
So what part of my public html do I need to upload just to get my posts back??
I don’t care if I have to redo everything for wordpress (as in reformat my web site). As long as I don’t lose my posts I am happy.

In reply to: Changed hosts, now have problems?Wow. Webjunk, while I really appreciate that you stopped to take the time to reply to me I don’t think you read the most important thing. I’m very inexperienced with all of the cpanel side of things. What I mean by that is that once this site is set up and I am able to maintain it’s appearance through wordpress, I have nothing to do over in the cpanel if it’s not getting a back up.
I have no idea what linux, telnet or SSH are much less performing an mv.
When you say that anything ABOVE public_html is not web accessible do you mean that everything should be UNDER it or that everything should be IN it??
I’m sorry I’ll be a PITA. I’m basically a mother who runs a family blog and doesn’t do it through blogger. I don’t write code or change code, I use templates.

In reply to: New Page and Individual Template?Any other idea’s?
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: New Page and Individual Template?Nope. In the attributes section I only have the option to chose my parent page, or to give the page an order number.
I just updated my wordpress to the latest thinking that this was why I couldn’t see it but I still don’t have that option.
