Nevermind, complicated answer to why this wasn’t working. Basically the subdomain that displayed the blog was set to point to a different IP address, which had a copy of the WordPress install. If you experience this problem, log in to GoDaddy and open Domain Manager to see if your domain is resolving to a different server. Another hint is that I could FTP into the (not live) GoDaddy WordPress directory via IP address. But when I tried to FTP using host name, my credentials failed.
