Thought I had the same problem, but it was another plug-in which blocked this feature of the nextgen gallery.

Later the day I found another problem with the script, could you please help me again?
When I choose a galery from the album (for example the first one with 74 pics in it), slightshow starts as wanted.
I can click on the link above to show the thumbnails, select one and show the big picture of it.When the galery contain more than 20 pics links are generated automaticly to navigate to the next 20 pics etc.
When I click on one of these links the following message is shown:
Default Gallery Type Template
This is the default gallery type template, located in:
/home/www/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/products/photocrati_nextgen/modules/nextgen_gallery_display/templates/index.php.If you’re seeing this, it’s because the gallery type you selected has not provided a template of it’s own.
