Oh I must be on crack. I meant the header search, but I wrote that post on my phone, forgetting your theme doesn’t have one! I do have firebug but I’m still learning how to use it.
Once I figure out how to get the child theme to work, I’ll be in business!. It’s just style.css in a folder called zenlite-child, right? With the “Template: zenlite” added, right?

Awesome! I tried to make a child theme but the page came out unformatted again. Maybe I missed something.

Couple more questions. How do you remove the search? How do I make the gray boxes on my forms white (assuming that’s your css) ?

    Thanks a bunch!!!

Well my tables seem to be doing the job just fine. Is it possible to remove the boxes around the content easily, and is there a footer where I could put his name and a copyright date and all that? I would also need a taller header image, but this looks great.

Honestly, that looks fantastic! Can you do submenus on the navbar? I’m assuming that if I only do pages rather than posts, I can work with a blank white page and not worry about post dates and comment boxes and all that? Does it have the ability to split content into columns or would I need a plugin for that? Currently I’m using TinyMCE Advanced and liking it ok.

I really should do that. My client just wants a simple white page with a banner at the top, one row of navigation links, and a full width page with no sidebars or anything. It’s going to be a straight webpage with no blog. Do you have any suggestions?

This Wordspop/Big Square thing had been a total fiasco. Their forum is essentially dead and abandoned, laden with spam posts for handbags.

OK, thanks. I will pay attention in the future before I choose a theme. I’m new to wordpress, and honestly, it’s been a pretty horrible experience. I mean, if you can’t click from the HTML tab to the Visual tab without it breaking your pages, something’s really wrong.

Also, about the table thing, considering I really don’t know what I’m doing, is it possible to backup what I have so far, page-wise, and just start over with a fresh installation of WP? Or would that not even fix the database issue?

Or could I install WP in a 2nd directory, then copy each of my pages over from the HTML window, then just delete the original installation?

I’d certainly be willing to give it a try. I know to stop if I think I’m getting above my head. 🙂

But to the original person who replied, what file would cause WP to “remember” settings after the entire theme was deleted? I basically need to make it as if I never installed the theme in the first place, which surely must not be a prohibited topic, regardless.

I did switch to twenty eleven, and I tried disabling the plugins. I had them before though and it was working. The weird thing is that the header image I saved in the theme is still displaying….and it’s theme specific (meaning when I switch to twenty eleven there’s different header image). This says to me that there’s some sort of settings file that retained info from the previous theme installation….because it shouldn’t “know” what image I had in there before.

Well I’m not really looking for support with the theme itself, I’m trying to figure out why wordpress isn’t acknowledging css.

I’ve put a huge amount of work into this site, and the last thing I expected was to stumble into a political situation.

I mean the tabs at the top of the editor, Visual and HTML.

Will the other type of editor keep the Visual tab from deleting my content? I have a large chunk of text and graphics that just vanishes in midsentence every time I tab over, then I have to paste it back in again.

I never did managed to get my divs to work in IE, so I ended up, after trying a truckload of plugins, using TinyMCE Advanced. It’s the only thing I’ve consistently been able to make tables with, and it has a decent number of options. The text not wrapping was partially my error, as there was a long graphic in the middle of a huge page of text (that I had overlooked) that was pushing everything out of whack. I also had to edit the margins of my theme because even without the graphic, it was running wide.

I just wanted to post this here cos 90% of the wordpress.org threads I found on google were left open ended with no resolution, which is frustrating when you’re searching for clues. Maybe somebody’ll find it useful.

Will installing that affect my existing tables when I go to edit pages?

I also ended up having to strip all the caption options from the style.css, and shorten one graphic that was too wide to fit into my layout. After that I pretty much was able to do what I was trying to do. Now my only problem is when I make a 1 row 2 cell table, and try to put a pic in the left side and text in the right, the content won’t stay at the top of the cells, and one always migrates down the page…even using valign=top

    Oh well!

Well I misspoke. They are in divs made with a plugin called Content Blocks, IIRC. The right side div has a table inside cos I was trying to force it to wrap with <table width= “480”>

It’s not working right, as you can see.

I even tried grabbing the little border box and dragging it to resize in the visual editor, but it just snaps back when I let go.
