Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Fixing broken links in Facebook and Twitter comment avatarsI don’t think the avatars were unbroken before I moved. I did a link check before the transfer and there were some, although not as many.
When you say domain change, do you mean the domain name switched from the WordPress.com server to the new host? That happened but there were no other changes. The domain is the same as before, so is the link structure.
Remember this broken avatar problem only applies to some avatars. Many are just as before.
How can I remove part of the Facebook Avatar URL? I can maybe do this from the database, is that how you’d fix it?

In reply to: Fixing broken links in Facebook and Twitter comment avatarsAh yes, I do have Jetpack. I thought you meant an alternative comment plug-in.
It may be worth pointing out that I moved the site from WordPress.com about six weeks ago. All the comments with missing avatars came across from the .com version.

In reply to: Fixing broken links in Facebook and Twitter comment avatarsThere is no comment plug-in.
Here is a page with a broken Facebook avatar link. There’s only one link so it’s easy to find:

And here’s one to a missing Twitter avatar link. It’s about half way down the comments:

I should point out to others reading this that the broken links may be fixed or removed by the time they find this forum post.

In reply to: Why are people coming to my site looking for /i2.wp.comSo all that’s going on here are calls to the Photon CDN?

In reply to: Why are people coming to my site looking for /i2.wp.comIf I look at the Redirection 404 logs there are plenty of attempts at reaching .php files (many of them for plug-ins that I don’t use).
These CDN addresses appear in the Redirection 404 log in this form: /i1.wp.com
There are lots of them.

In reply to: Why are people coming to my site looking for /i2.wp.comYes, I am. Redirection sees these requests, or some of them, as 404 errors. Is that something I should worry about?

In reply to: [Hammy] How do I know if Hammy is working?I see. I checked the images on my site http://digitl.co.nz and they are much smaller than the uploaded image, that’s good. And I notice that means faster page loads.
Can I assume the page speed results show them as uncompressed because Smushit isn’t compressing the hammified images? And, supplementary question, is that do-able?

In reply to: Can't open themes from dashboardFeel stupid that the fix was so simple. My consolation is I’m sure others will land here looking for answers to the same problem.
Thanks.

In reply to: Can't open themes from dashboardI just tested this with Chrome and it works OK, so it seems to be a problem with Safari.

In reply to: Using WordPress on a Microsoftr Surface 2Yes, the entire backend. Writing posts is relatively hard and the WordPress.com Windows 8 app doesn’t connect to my self-hosted site, so that’s not a practical alternative.
