    I did a write-up on my blog that explains what I did in detail to make this work, but here’s the short of it.

    Download and open wp-content/plugins/events-manager/widgets/em-events.php for editing and add the following line at approximately line 15:

    'category' => 0,// this adds 'category' to the widget's function

    Then add the following five lines at approximately line 80, in between the </p> tag for “title” and the <p> tag for “limit”:

    <p><!-- this adds the category option to the widget's form -->
    			<label for="<?php echo $this->get_field_id('category'); ?>"><?php _e('Category ID','dbem'); ?>: </label>
    			<input type="text" id="<?php echo $this->get_field_id('category'); ?>" name="<?php echo $this->get_field_name('category'); ?>" size="3" value="<?php echo $instance['category']; ?>" /><br />
    			<label for="<?php echo $this->get_field_id('category'); ?>"><?php _e('(separate multiple IDs by commas, or use "0" for all categories)','dbem'); ?> </label>
    		</p>

    Save, FTP back to your server, and you should be set.

    The default setting is “0” for all categories, add one ID to show one category, and separate multiple categories with commas.

    Check out my blog post for more details.

    After pondering this one for a night I modified the Events widget to be able to select one, multiple, or all categories to be displayed. It’s the same widget with the extra option of selecting a category. I’m going to document what I did then I’ll post it here.

    Shonu,

    About your first question: That’s a good point, and it depends on the theme you’re using. I tend to use premium themes from providers like WooThemes that give you control over which widgets appear on what pages, categories, etc.

    Not sure what you’re asking with your second question, as I just started working with Events Manager myself.

    I’m new to this plugin myself, but what I found was I needed to Activate Permalinks under General Options, then go to Settings > Permalinks and “Save Changes” to update the permalinks, and (this is what I was missing for a while) make sure “Deactivate gallery page link” in Gallery Settings is UNSELECTED.

    After doing that, clicking a gallery on your album page should load the real WP page with that gallery on it.
