Over the past few months I have attempted to sample several different themes. At various times when I have installed a new theme, I would get an error message on the themes page. This error message stated that the stylesheet is missing. Looking on the wordpress support page, I couldn’t find any help in solving this problem. So for the most part I just deleted the theme and moved on to another. However, after finding the current theme I am using I again had the same problem. This time however, I discovered what is going on.
First when I downloaded the theme and unzipped it, the theme would be in the folder it was named. Yet after uploading the theme using an ftp client I discoverd that the files in the folder would break apart for some reason. Instead of all of the files staying within the themes folder certain folders like images and javascript would find thereselves located outside of the main folder. This is where the problem lay. I don’t know why the folders would break apart after being uploaded by they did. I found that if I created a new folder and moved all of the existing folders into the new one, the theme would work properly.
