Hi Glenn thanks i have tried both of those solutions and still no dice… This is not a hosted server this is my own server at home which is currently hosting my blog running wordpress 2.7.1 fine.

Even if i try a manuall install to a new blog not my current one i still get the same result so the install is working fine database is fine there seems to be an issue with either PHP, MySQL or IIS7 but i am unaware of where to look for any issues?

I am having the same issue 500 – internal server error.

    Setup:
    Server 2008
    IIS7
    PHP 5
    MySQL 5.1
    Wordpress 2.7.1

Tried to auto update from 2.7.1 to 2.8 everything seems to go fine except for logging into the admin interface gives me an error. .maintenance file was not deleted after upgrade or the upgrade folder. Disabled all plugins renamed the directory and changed memory limits and nothing has worked.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

    Thanks,
    Brandon

Ok found that this is actually a problem with the Redirection plugin i was using. I made sure it was disabled and everything worked… So far havent found a resolution yet but i have just kept it disabled. If you are using any other form of redirection on your site this could be causing the same problem.
