Was having the same issues yesterday, where nobody could access my protected files (which I had hyperlinked on the page). Figured it out today, hopefully it will help you:
When you protect media files that you have already uploaded, the URL changes to include the phrase “_mediavault/”. So if you have the media inserted on the post before you downloaded the widget and clicked to protect them, then it’s linking to the old URL that didn’t contain “_mediavault/”. The plugin, unfortunately, does not change the URLs on the pages, just on the media file itself.
Go back in and update your URLs on the page you added them to and it should work. If that’s not the problem you’re having, feel free to ignore me. I just thought I’d post here in case it helps anyone!
